final project

1. Who are you in the eyes/perception of others?
Intellectual
Mean
Loving
Impatient
Grumpy in morning

Picky
Carrot top 0
Silly
Lazy
Blunt 0
Lanky 0
Passionate
Loyal
Messy
Hedonistic
Self-critical
Judgmental
2. How do you see/perceive yourself?
Failure
Forever a child
Hedonistic

Smarter than average but not by much and I am stupid in mathematics
Musically talented but misunderstood
Procrastinator
Open minded

3. Why are you here? (your definition of here)
I’m still in Indiana to learn skills that will get me a job doing what I enjoy. I think striving for a job that makes you happy should be every person’s goal
DJing, producing music and using computers is why I got into New Media
4. What are the implications of your identity to others? (you decide to whom the implications apply - you or others, but be specific)
My identity determines the jobs I can get, the friends I will make or the experiences I can have. If you dress inappropriately for a job interview or if you appear lazy you most likely will not get the job. If you are lazy and you don’t finish projects no one will ever know how creative you are.
5. How are you effected by the identity of others? (are you different around various people - why might that be)
I act different in front of authority figures than I do when I think I have the authority.
6. Is identity static? (make sure to show in your project your answer to this)
Physical traits may be static, but personal choices never are.

fear experiment

Fear

I believe fear is the moment in your life when you respond to a stimulus without thought. I think of both my fear of small spaces and small creatures when I consider fear.

I will conduct an experiment where I will scare a volunteer with a box that is empty. The box has a trap door where I will grab the volunteer’s hand to simulate the shock and fear a person experiences from a small creepy animal. I will imply that the box has small critters in it.

I think my hypothesis was generally correct. My volunteer was surprised and startled by the unknown small living item in the box (my hand). I think even though I never said what was in the box that the volunteer was scared for a moment based on the assumption of a threat in the box.

I think if I did another experiment I would test multiple people in isolation, some with real small critters in the box and others with just my hand, so I can see the different reactions or if the reactions are the same.

I was very moved by the person that spoke about having problems with mental health because that particular issue is a ongoing problem with one of my loved ones and we struggle with it’s effects a lot. There is a stigma associated with mental issues and it takes guts to confront those issues in a public setting.

My hypothosis

How do you think people (your classmates) will react to what you came up with?

I think the person I choose to volunteer will be startled by the surprise I have in a shoebox. This will happen if I pull off misdirection well. I think the fear of the unknown will be my most useful tool.

5 again

For this week’s blog I was tasked with creating something with paperclips. I thought back to when I was five years old. I talked to several people about what they do with paperclips when they are bored. A lot of people like to hook all of the clips together in a chain, so people made the clips into letters. I did neither; I remember I would obsessively bend half the clip vertical so the clips other half would act like a stand. I was always interested in balancing things, be it pencils, eraser heads or paperclips. So I took this idea and I used pliers to make simple little photograph stands using only four paperclips

Intresting photo I took

I thought the artist among our class would appreciate this. Makes me think of a delta or root system, it seems very organic to me.

I remeber from class two weeks ago

I remember how incredible busy it was outside. I had an interesting conversation with a classmate about the circular nature of religions like Taoism and Buddhism. I liked the woman in class that showed extreme close ups of pine cones.

No sight class review

I thought that the women that did the beatbox project were very creative. I think the idea to utilize all of our senses is a good teaching tool to help with our creativity

not seeing

I recorded several different people describing themselves.  For each person’s first recording they described themselves accurately in their own words.  In people’s second recording I had them fabricate lies about them.  Below I randomized each true/false sequence.  I want the listener to visualize in their “mind’s eye” each participant and also which statement is false or true.  I think it is interesting that how a person talks can convey multiple meanings to a listener.  The listener may find the speaker to represent many stereotypes that are not necessarily accurate.  When playing the clips for other people I noted that each listener could interpret the tone, accents, and content of what is said differently.

I had trouble uploading the file. i will try later and will bring audio to campus

I have been stumped for two weeks on this project.  All I can think of is transformers and Russian dolls.   I am trying to receive credit, I hope I'm surprised.

Seeing Sideways - expectations

I don’t have many expectations for the seeing sideways course.  I think this class encourages us to think creatively and to develop new ways of looking at the world.  The idea that so much of the media produced today is just repackaged material derived from earlier ideas really motivates me to strive for originality.  I hope this class will help me see the world in new light by discovering what gets my mind working.

The Egg and the Eye

So… I made something with an egg.  I think I understand what my instructor is trying to do, get us to think about how to be creative and how to use old concepts to build completely new ideas. I don’t know.. Here it is

The moon landing 1969

I tried many ideas out before I reached this one.  This project cost many eggs.  The first egg didn’t make it home, I thought I’ll write about the experiences the egg had on a bumpy ride home, you know if it was a fly on the wall kind of deal.  It didn’t work.  Next I thought I would place a piece of cardboard on my turntables, spin it at a certain speed aligned with the audio’s musical timing, then dribble egg yoke from one point to paint the speed.  I was going to do two to illustrate the difference in speed by means of yolk pattern.  I was warned this was a bad idea.  From the resulting mess I also agree it was a bad idea.

I painted a paper plate black with a marker then speckled whiteout to represent space and stars.  I blew out an egg then glued it to the plate.  Next, I set the gigantic flag and attached the Lego space man with glue.

I decided to represent the 1969 moon landing with exaggerated emphasis on American pride represented by an enormous flag.  The moon was such a small, useless and distant thing to most people in the world.  America spent billions of dollars to collect rocks and do research but the scientific pursuit representing all of mankind was somewhat reduced in glow of American pride beating the Soviets.

Created a blog

Does this qualify me for residency in the bloggerverse?
