Seeing Sideways - expectations

I don’t have many expectations for the seeing sideways course.  I think this class encourages us to think creatively and to develop new ways of looking at the world.  The idea that so much of the media produced today is just repackaged material derived from earlier ideas really motivates me to strive for originality.  I hope this class will help me see the world in new light by discovering what gets my mind working.

The Egg and the Eye

So… I made something with an egg.  I think I understand what my instructor is trying to do, get us to think about how to be creative and how to use old concepts to build completely new ideas. I don’t know.. Here it is

The moon landing 1969

I tried many ideas out before I reached this one.  This project cost many eggs.  The first egg didn’t make it home, I thought I’ll write about the experiences the egg had on a bumpy ride home, you know if it was a fly on the wall kind of deal.  It didn’t work.  Next I thought I would place a piece of cardboard on my turntables, spin it at a certain speed aligned with the audio’s musical timing, then dribble egg yoke from one point to paint the speed.  I was going to do two to illustrate the difference in speed by means of yolk pattern.  I was warned this was a bad idea.  From the resulting mess I also agree it was a bad idea.

I painted a paper plate black with a marker then speckled whiteout to represent space and stars.  I blew out an egg then glued it to the plate.  Next, I set the gigantic flag and attached the Lego space man with glue.

I decided to represent the 1969 moon landing with exaggerated emphasis on American pride represented by an enormous flag.  The moon was such a small, useless and distant thing to most people in the world.  America spent billions of dollars to collect rocks and do research but the scientific pursuit representing all of mankind was somewhat reduced in glow of American pride beating the Soviets.

Does this qualify me for residency in the bloggerverse?
